Pfizer, the world's largest maker of erectile dysfunction treatments, is launching a new anti-impotence treatment that could be more than just a new pill: Viagra.
The erectile dysfunction pill, which has been on the market since 1998, will be launched in pharmacies in 60 countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Brazil, according to Pfizer.
The erectile dysfunction pill will cost about $1.50 a pill, a mere $0.07 per pill, compared with $5.50 a pill in the United States, according to the firm.
The drug is also being marketed as a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension, a type of high blood pressure that occurs when the arteries that supply the lungs are narrowed, and the heart is weak.
The new drug is called Viagra, and it was launched in the US in the spring of 2015.
The company, which is based in San Diego, Calif., said in a statement that the new product "remains FDA approved and is expected to be marketed by Pfizer in the US."
Pfizer, which makes Viagra, said it expects to launch the pill in the first half of 2016, although the company said that the launch is "within the timeframe for which Pfizer expects to launch the original Viagra."
The drug is still a "smallish" pill, but it can be sold under a variety of brand names, including Levitra, Viagra and Cialis, according to Pfizer.
Pfizer is not the first to introduce a new product in the U. S., though many more are on the horizon, including some new products with more names, including Lipitor and Zoloft.
Pfizer said it is working with the FDA to determine the best-selling drug to increase its sales and market share.

In the past, Viagra and Lipitor sales were up 20 per cent to $11.55 in Europe and 30 per cent to $1.50 a pill, the company said.
The company will launch its Viagra in the US in the second half of 2016 and the Lipitor in the US in 2016.
The FDA has granted approval to take over the drug's manufacturing in a major US pharmacy, according to an earlier version of the announcement.
Pfizer's Sanofi-Aventis said it has taken over the patent for Viagra for the drug, which will now be sold in the US.
Viagra, the first of the new drug's two main categories of impotence treatment, will also be made available in pharmacies, the company said.
The FDA, in its final approval, said that Pfizer's decision to move the patent on the drug to the US would create "a world of difference," which it hopes will allow its rivals to manufacture and sell their drugs in other countries.
The new drug, which is not yet FDA-approved, is made by Pfizer, the company that makes Viagra, which has been around since 1998.
